Kyle Carr, PhD (he/him), is a Learning Experience Designer in the Center for Digital Innovation in Learning (CDIL) at Boston College. In this role, he collaborates with faculty to design engaging and inclusive digital learning experiences, drawing on evidence-based practices and emerging technologies. He leads course and program redesigns, facilitates workshops on teaching and learning, and develops digital learning assets using tools such as Canvas, Articulate, and generative AI. Kyle also chairs the Inclusive Excellence and Accessibility working group, building a community of practice focused on equity and socially just online learning.

Kyle first became interested in learning design during the COVID-19 pandemic, when transitioning his own courses online introduced him to the field. That experience inspired him to join CDIL in 2020, initially as a contractor and later as a full-time designer. Since then, he has contributed to cross-disciplinary projects and supported program-level redesigns that align curriculum with both mission and workforce needs.

In addition to his design work, Kyle teaches sociology at Boston College, offering courses including Introductory Sociology, Sociology of Health and Illness, Deviance and Social Control, and AI & Society: The Sociological Impact of Intelligent Machines. His teaching emphasizes inclusive pedagogy and student belonging, which also inform his approach to faculty consultation and course design.

Kyle holds a BA in Sociology and Psychology from the College of the Holy Cross and earned his MA and PhD in Sociology from Boston College. His research explores how social disconnection across the life course shapes mental health, and his work has appeared in Social Science & Medicine, The Journals of Gerontology, and SSM – Population Health.
